Radcliffe 2XI Vs Southwell 1XI

Finally a break from the monsoon summer we are enjoying allowed Radcliffe and Southwell to get a full game of cricket played. Hats off to Radcliffe for getting the ground in very decent shape considering the weeks weather.

Radcliffe won the toss and given the weather around unsurprisingly had a bowl. Radcliffe bowled with a lot of discipline, Stuart Mills in particular bowling 14 very tidy overs and deserving his 4 wickets. Southwell looked every bit like a side who hadn't played or trained in the last few weeks, with a fairly rusty batting display. Chris Miller and Tim Green the only batsman to venture into the 20's. Radcliffe eventually bowled Southwell out for a subpar but perhaps defendable 127 on what looked to be a rain affected second innings.

The second Innings however went much the way of the first with Tom Johnson and Thomas Booth getting Radcliffe off to a flyer. Johnson would eventually carry his bat with an excellent 56*. A wicket a ball before the rain delay left Radcliffe 60 for 2, with a short break giving Southwell opportunity to plan a comeback. This however was wishful thinking as Joe Wilcox and Johnson saw them home with ease to cap off a fairly comprehensive victory.

The Southwell 1st XI ship has not sailed ever so well with me as it's captain, I think it's fair to say, and the players were rightly disappointed with this particular voyage. It's good we were as disappointed as we were, as we hope to continue to grow a team that expects to win. With this in mind we put this performance behind us, and look forward to Captain Fryer guiding us toward some much needed treasure!
