BBC Reporter Spots Four From Stokes!

Last month George Kelsey, a Sports Broadcaster intern for BBC Radio Nottingham read the Southwell Sunday 1st XI match report vs. Collingham CC and noticed that four players had the same surname! Having clarified this was not an error, George wanted to run a story; it’s not every day you have four team mates all related!

This resulted in a live interview taking place at the Thrumpton vs Southwell match on 21st August which was subsequently broadcast on BBC Radio Nottingham. You can listen to the full story via the following link: http://bbc.in/1c8qghR

Chris Stokes and his three sons Dan, Tim and Michael (13, 14 & 15 respectively) and have grown up with Southwell Cricket Club since moving to the area 12 years ago.  Chris returned to playing three years ago, after a long break from the game, to support the Sunday XI (he’s now a young 52 years old). “It's great to get the opportunity to play with my sons - and my wife gets the day to herself!” says the proud farther. “We run the Sunday team as a development opportunity for the younger players to experience senior cricket at a slightly lower intensity than the Saturday leagues.  Normally we pick a team for Sunday with at least five or six developing players and make sure they bat or bowl or both in every game”.
