July 2005, Southwell Ladies win the Ashes!!

Southwell Ladies won their first ever game today! They beat an Upton Ladies XI in a match which was arranged as part of the ‘Upton 150’ Festival.

 Their prize for winning was the ashes of the old Upton Pavilion which has recently been burnt – and is to be replaced shortly. 

Southwell scored 95-3 in 18 overs, with the top scorers being Dee Carr (23), Claire Orme (20), Katie Islip (11) and Harriet Rogers (13).

Upton replied with 53-8, top scorer being Jane Bowles. The whole Southwell team fielded extremely professionally and were well marshalled by captain Sue McCarthy. Superb bowling figures were recorded by Jess Lucas (2-7) and Sarah Brock (1-5). Sarah and Lauren Hardern were the individual stars in an excellent fielding performance, helped by the capable wicket-keeping of Katie Islip.
