Southwell CC Weekend 17th-18th July round up 07/20/2010
The weekend saw the first team overcome Gedling and Sherwood in a low scoring game. steve Wright was the start performer with a career best 8-22. Southwell wobbled as they chased a modest total of 98 for victory, but passed their target for the loss of seven wickets, securing a much needed 20 points in the process. The 2nd XI had their fixture against Newark rained off for the second time this season. With Newark sitting rock bottom of the table, Will Powell's team can count themselves somewhat unlucky. The Sunday first coasted to victory after bowling Long Eaton out for 138 (Ali Haynes 4-34). Jonno (64*) and Grant (30) contributed the runs as the total was reached for the loss of 2 wickets. The development side lost a high scoring game against a strong Kegworth side. Zac Ashworth again bowled with great control picking up 4 wkts as the hosts set Southwell a total of 226 to win. Butler (35) batted superbly and put on 100 for the first wicket with Scott (82). However, wickets fell frequently and we were left 9 runs short with Stutchbury and Butler at the crease, after 40 overs. Add Comment 16/05/2010 Sun 1sts vs Ransome & Marles 06/04/2010

Result: Fastlane Cabs - 1st XI Won by 2 wickets Date: Sun 23rd May 2010 @ 14:00 Type: League: Newark Alliance Division 5 Highlights: FASTLANE CABS 117 for 8 (Rajid Mehmood 57, Ajmal Hussein 3/16, Yaqoob Khan 3/25) beat SOUTHWELL II 115 all out (Ruth Sprawson 26, Alex Milton 3/18) On a day fit for Strawberries and Cream, Jim Scotts men served up a feast of magic moments against FCCC but were to find the end result a disappointment. The Old Police ground is a gem surrounded by elegant houses who offered up a feast of Opera, Folk, and 80s Rock to accompany the days activities. The outfield looked quick but the Track resembled a poorly maintained allotment. Unrepentant the Skipper decided that on such a hot day he would thrust his young chargers into the fray. Sam Grimley & Johnny Butler offered stern resistance to the varying bounce; indeed Sams body saw rather more of the ball than his Newbury Bat. After the openers had departed to some magical balls, seasoned campaigner Grimley senior and skipper Scott looked to re build, but Scotty fell to a shooter and walked for an LBW, and Grimley after a couple of meaty blows decided to lead the charge – and suffered for his lack of judgement! Nick Hardy tried in vain to defend his stumps only to find his leg stump to be uprooted. Enter the young guns, Euan Haynes, Alex Milton, Jack Grimley, Joseph Stutchbury and Ruth Sprawson. Against some hostile bowling they all stood up and battled it out. Jack Grimley scored 14, but was felled whilst batting to ball 5 of an over that threatened to start a boy soprano career. When Ruth entered the fray times were looking difficult, but with some great running and support from Mike Butler, she took the Taxi men on and dispatched them all over the ground. When Mike was eventually out Ruth finished on 26* and we had got to 115. After Tea, well Cheese sandwiches – the skipper rallied his troupes and we started our effort to bowl them out. Alex Milton (Alex Milton 3/18), swinging the ball with control picked up 3 early wickets. The runs kept coming but the wickets kept falling. Mike Butler was relieved to find that Jim Scott could catch one handed to remove FCCCs skipper. Nick Hardy , Jack Grimley, Euan Haynes, Joe Stutchbury all took body blows whilst fielding. Only one batsman for FCCC stuck around (Rajid Mehmood 57), playing straight to anything on the wicket and essaying drives to anything wide. He finished with a very polished 57 to give the home side the spoils but not without SCC going down with a fight, taking 8 wickets. Thanks to Jerry our umpire, Ollie our scorer and a band of followers. We will be back! 22/05/2010 Sat 1sts vs GEDLING COLLIERY 05/23/2010

They turned out to be a very poor batting side and we bowled them out for 136. Steve Wright ended with figures of 6 for 43. Their bowling attack was not a great deal better and we knocked the runs off for the loss of just 1 wicket with 20 overs to spare. Tim Green and Richard Beaumont were 55 and 60 not out respectively. 20 points. 01/05/2010 Sat 1st vs Belvior 05/19/2010
Our first game of the season was at home against Belvoir. Conditions were always going to make batting very difficult indeed and they won the crucial toss. Unsurprisingly, we were asked to bat first and we only managed to score 118 for 8 in 42 overs. Tim Green and Grant McCarthy with 38 and 29 were the only batsmen to score anything significant. We had Belvoir in a spot of bother after Ted Behl took 3 early wickets and they were 6 down still requiring 45 but they steadied the ship and eventually knocked the small total off with no further loss of wickets. 3 points. 15/05/2010 Sat 2nds vs Thrumpton 05/19/2010
